| Pennsylvania Energy, a General Statement |
George: Aren’t we sick of wringing our hands over OPEC production reports or another oil field burning in Iraq? Aren’t we tired of merely reacting and pleading to Washington for help every time winter rages and energy prices soar, taking out small businesses by the thousands and staggering even larger ones?
Making energy an asset rather than an ailment is going to take big ideas and bold action. No more energy policies written by the energy industry for the energy industry.
America and Pennsylvania can do better. We’re the people who built the Panama Canal and put a man on the moon.
I came across a report describing the Marshall Plan, which rebuilt Western Europe after World War II. Imagine what we would accomplish with a domestic energy equivalent of the Marshall Plan:
“In the short run, it relieved widespread privation and averted the threat of a serious economic depression. In the long run, it enabled the United States to recover and maintain not only economic but political independence.”
I only substituted “the United States” for “Western European nations.”
We rebuilt Europe. We’re rebuilding Iraq.
We have it in us to build an energy independent Pennsylvania and America. Source: Submitted by CAMILLE George Date: 10/04/2006 |
