Casey: A Real Energy Plan
The energy bill signed into law last year featured massive giveaways to Big Oil at a time when the industry was already reaping record profits. In Bob Casey's view, legislation containing a real energy plan would have focused on conservation, alternative fuel technologies, and renewable power sources. These are the kind of steps that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil, improve our environment, and create more jobs in the U.S.
Bob Casey specifically supports a Renewable/Renewal Portfolio Standard that would require power plants to generate reasonable percentages of their output from renewable power sources. He is pleased that Pennsylvania would economically benefit from this needed turn to alternative sources since our state is a leader in the development of wind power.
Auto Emission Standards and New Technologies
To reduce pollution emissions and our dependence on foreign oil, Bob Casey supports increased fuel efficiency standards in new automobiles as well as increased investments in hybrid and alternative fuel technologies. He also favors tax incentives for companies to develop advanced technologies that reduce automobile emissions.
Lowering the Burden of High Fuel Costs
Bob Casey has endorsed the Windfall Profits Rebate Act. This legislation would tax oil companies 50% on the profits they make from oil priced above $40 per barrel and return the money to consumers in the form of a rebate. Source: Candidate Website Date: 10/07/2006 |
